About the role

This is a full-time, on-site FPGA Design Engineer opportunity based in Concord, CA. You will lead FPGA-based logic and firmware development for high-performance inertial sensing systems, working across the full product life cycle from first prototype through volume production. This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys solving hard timing, verification, and firmware-integration problems and who is comfortable supporting system integration, bring-up, and debug in the lab. The position is 100% in-office and may include occasional travel of less than 10 percent to support a secondary facility.

Key responsibilities

You will design, develop, and test FPGA firmware and digital logic using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog, and architect SoC-based solutions using tools such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, and Microsemi Libero IDE with ModelSim simulation environments. You will implement FPGA-based digital signal processing components including digital filters, transforms, and multipliers, and optimize FPGA implementations for speed, power, and resource utilization. You will conduct simulation, verification, and debugging of FPGA designs while supporting system integration, hardware bring-up, and lab-based testing using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other equipment. You will assist with early-build fabrication support, transfer designs into manufacturing, support scale-up to full production volume, and apply DFM and DFT principles. You will collaborate with firmware, hardware, and systems teams and develop and maintain documentation for FPGA and firmware designs, implementations, and test results.

Required skills

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and brings a minimum of five years of experience in FPGA design, simulation, and firmware development for embedded systems. You must demonstrate proficiency in VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog and have hands-on experience with FPGA development tools including Xilinx Vivado, Microsemi Libero IDE, Intel Quartus, and SoC devices such as Microchip PolarFire. Strong understanding of embedded systems and real-time programming is required, along with proficiency in C and C++ for firmware development. You must have experience with signal processing and high-speed communication interfaces including SPI and I2C, with PCIe and Ethernet preferred, as well as knowledge of FPGA verification and testing methodologies. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Experience required

Minimum 5 years of FPGA design/simulation and firmware development for embedded systems; Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering

Preferred qualifications

Experience designing mixed-signal hardware circuits including ADCs, DACs, clock circuits, and high-speed memory such as DDR is preferred. Familiarity with SoC FPGA architecture and development utilizing AI and ML acceleration, as well as proficiency in Python and knowledge of MATLAB for simulation and analysis, are considered strong assets. Experience supporting products from prototype through volume production and an understanding of inertial navigation systems will set candidates apart.
